Planning an EBP implementation

Planning an EBP implementation

Topic 4 DQ 1

When planning an EBP implementation, it is a must to understand the local health care system because in each locality or community the health care needs may be different and available resources may vary. For the successful implementation of EBP, educated and skilled human resources such as doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers are essential to provide leadership and the necessary competence. Lack of adequate skilled health care workers is the main barrier in the implementation of EBP. Besides that, the organizational structure of the healthcare system at the local level, an awareness of the culture and tradition of the community and their educational standard, and religious beliefs are also vital in EBP. Cultural factors play an important role in influencing the successful implementation of EBP because it influences the cooperation of the stakeholders in the process (Joseph, 2019).

The organization where the writer currently working is a mental and behavioral health facility and most of the patients come from jail and the educational qualification is below high school for most of them. When the writer discussed the topic of prevention of infection in hospital units, the preceptor instructed to provide adequate health education to the patients about the importance of personal hygiene because most of the patients have aggressive behavior and disorganized thought process which prevent them to maintain personal hygiene and cleanliness.

Why is understanding the health care system at the local level important to consider when planning an EBP implementation? Conduct research and solicit anecdotal evidence from your course preceptor that you will take into consideration for your own change project.
