Resistance is a major factor for the person assigned to perform the procedure. Resistance to change is a major struggle for many organizations that have some form of “always-on” Staff. Some staff may find it as an insult to their behavior to be taught how to teach. Understanding that changing the culture of an organization is a key factor in promoting EBP, and that interventions work and are not only valuable to patients, but also valuable to care time and workflow.

Time and knowledge need to be taken into account when promoting EBP. Things can change and we need resources to keep the latest EBP up to date. Take the time to carry out regular surveys to ensure that our practices are still appropriate. There may be new information that will prove to be more useful in educating our patients. Time is also a factor when there is new staff to be trained, if they areunaware of the EBP process for teachback, they won`t know about the tools or how to perform this. Ensuring new staff is educated and is aware of the resources to be used will prove beneficial. Promoting the use of the educational tool as well as EBP will improve a nurse`s time management and a patient`s overall education experience.

Sustaining change can be difficult, as there are many variables that can affect implementation. One critical component of EBP is to ensure that practice change is part of an organization’s culture so it will continue to impact outcomes over time.
