With so many jobs being made obsolete by technology, the idea of a Universal Basic

receive a certain amount of money each month, on top of whatever they already make. Eduardo

Porter is not one of those supporters, according to his article in the

New York Times,

“A

Universal Income is a Poor Tool to Fight Poverty.” What about you? Does it sound promising?

Or not?

Please respond to the article with an argument of your own in an essay that is about 3-5

Include the author, title, and argument. Please use your own words and sentence structure when

summarizing the author’s ideas. Include a thesis statement identifying your position on the topic

(answering the prompt).

Support your thesis in a few paragraphs. For each paragraph, provide an arguable topic

sentence that directly supports your thesis. Reference the article(s) you’ve read about the

issue. Give us the title of the article and the name of the author (or the organization

responsible for it, if there is no human being attached as the author). Use direct quotes by

using a key line or two from the piece, and then explain how what the article says

demonstrates support for your thesis. Relate the point to some evidence of your own

through analysis. Explain how and why that information supports your view on the issue.

Use the experiences of people you know, hypothetical situations, or information you

looked up to show why you feel the way you do about the issue. Remain in the third

person.

Conclude your essay with some final thoughts on the subject. Do not bring in any new

ideas. Help us see why the educational domain will be a better place if we embrace your

point of view on the issue.

Essay should be at least 700 words in length.

Use MLA style.
