The Midwife of Platonism

The Midwife of Platonism

In ~2 pages, do a summary, analysis and interrogation of one of the following sections of D. Sedley, The Midwife of Platonism Ch. 4. In each of these selections, Sedley is advancing an interpretation of a key stretch of argument we have already discussed in class.

  1. §1 “Perception and Flux
  2. §4-5, “A priori and Empirical,” and “Truth and Knowledge”

Here’s a bit more information of what I’d like you to do:

  1. Summary: provide a 100-150 word summary of what the author accomplishes or argues in the selected passage. As always in summaries, aim to provide the most direct, clear and accurate description of the main result and action of the passage, before describing any detailed steps or components of the passage.
  2. Analysis: Break the passage down into its main components, providing for each a clear summary description and, where important, presentation of key steps or assertions.
  3. Interrogation: Present one or two questions or critical responses to the ideas or arguments in the passage. These do not need to be decisive objections or counterarguments. But they should be focused, clear, appropriately connected to the author’s argument, supported by properly details from primary text (when relevant) and fully explained
