Film Case Assignment – Requiem for the American Dream – Noam Chomsky
The film presents fundamental flaws in our political system that detract from democracy. Cutting through 250 years of history, Noam Chomsky distills ten basic principles of wealth and power which have conspired against the American Dream and have formed a vicious cycle that has contributed to our current divisive atmosphere.
In an essay, chose four principles out of the ten that are presented in the film. For each principle – explain the problem it presents, how it affects the lives of people in America today, what consequences it may lead to at both the individual and societal levels, and what can be done to decrease its influence.
The assignment length should be between 2 to 4 pages long, not including references. Please cite any sources you use. The assignment should be stapled, typed, double spaced, 12 pt. type, and one margin on each side.
