TOPIC DISCUSSIONS

During our Topic Discussion meetings we will be discussing ethics topics of your choosing.

There are Two Components of this Assignment:

1.) STUDENTS ARE ASKED TO “JUMP-START” CONVERSATION WITHIN THEIR TOPICS

2.) STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO WRITE AN ESSAY DUE AT THE END OF THE TERM DESCRIBED BELOW.

I am asking you to write a 3-5 page (12 font, double-spaced) reflection (it must be type-written) for a topic of your choosing. In this short written assignment do the following THREE things: 1.) state which issue(s) you find most interesting in your chosen topic ,2.) tell why the topic is a moral controversy and briefly explain your own moral position on it and 3.) explain which moral theory you think most supports your view. You may choose whatever form of citation (MLA, APA) you prefer.

Ethics of Culture: For example–Should people from other cultures be made to enculturate or become more American—e.g., should there be an English-only policy? What about ethical issues tied to immigration policies? Should “birth-right citizenship” be abolished? Should a wall be built between Mexico and the U.S.? Welfare issues, Role of Media, Future of Marriage/Family issues, etc.
