TR 122: Industry Interview Project

HRHM 3000 provides an overview of various sectors of the Hospitality Industry. There are various opportunities for employment within this industry both in traditional (hotel, restaurant, etc.) and non-traditional (Theme park, casino, etc.) sectors. This project will allow the student to gain an insight into the life of a travel professional.

Directions:

Interview 3 people currently working in the Hospitality Industry.

  • 1 interview per industry sector

Questions should include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Name
  • Title
  • Educational background
  • Why did choose particular sector to work in?
  • Descriptions and responsibilities of the work
  • Likes and dis-likes of their job(s)
  • Salary? Benefits? Perks? (If willing to share)
  • Advice regarding working in industry or trying to find a job in the industry
  • Other information

The interviews are to be compiled in a 3-5 page, double-spaced, paper. The paper should include

  • Business card of interviewee
  • Questions and responses
  • Your impressions of the interviewee and their job
  • What you learned during each interview that you didn’t know before. If you didn’t learn anything new, discuss.
  • Overall impressions of working in the various industry sectors based on the sum of the interviews
    • Likes
    • Dislikes
    • Interest in a particular job and/or sector of the industry
    • Other information you wish to include
