Our interest in, exposure to, and involvement with media and technology are like the air that we breath—we listen to music, use our computers, and hear and see advertisements all day every day. In the context of this course, they are secondary socialization forces that exert significance influence regarding how we see ourselves, others, and other parts of social life. The materials that we would like you to read and watch in this module are simply the tip of the iceberg with respect to the volume of commentary on these particular aspects of contemporary social life (i.e., media and technology).
