research and write about one of the topics below. For instance, you might choose a biography on a poet and her or his poetry, “Major Events”, or “Analysis.”

Research Paper Topic Areas:

  • Biography and Major Works of authors, poets, musicians, architects, philosophers, filmmakers, artists, and other prominent people mentioned in the textbook.
  • Major events, ideologies, or movements mentioned in the textbook. Examples include the New Psychology/Freud or the Political, Racial, and Gender Events of the 1960’s.
  • Literature, Play, Film, or Music Analysis
    • For Music, you can choose a piece of music on the Music CD that you find interesting or transcendent, analyze the piece for its theoretical music form/evaluate the piece of music, research the historical and social context of the music and artist, and collect a supporting historical artifact for your multimedia element. Review the Music Listening and Music Elements handouts above.

Requirements for the Research Paper

  • Minimum word count of 1200 (not to exceed 1500)
  • Submission format: either MLA or APA Style
  • One multimedia element such as sound/audio, images, pictures, clip art, or videos;
  • Two hyperlinks, one for content and one for definition;
  • Three different types of reputable sources including one scholarly or referred journal taken from one of TCC’s databases. The other two sources can be taken from those located under Course Information/ Resources for Research Papers. Wikipedia, encyclopedias, or personal web sites are not considered required sources!

All written portions of the Research Papers need to have the following:

  • Student/Class/Assignment Information (your name, the class, the assignment, and the assignment due date) in the upper-left corner of the first page;
  • A title (at least three words);
  • An introduction;
  • A thesis statement at the end of an introduction;
  • Body paragraphs that are indented;
  • Headers on all pages (last name and page number for MLA; shortened title and page number for APA);
  • Double-spaced text
  • In-text citations (introduce sources and/or insert parenthetical citations)
  • A conclusion with a restated thesis statement at the beginning;
  • A Works Cited or References on a separate page.

Don’t do any on the following: they were given for examples– Andy Warhol, Samuel Beckett and Waiting for Godot, Feminism in Literature and New Realism and Photorealism.
